Glimmer of Hope in Crossing Saga
2nd October 2008

The Council in Blandford St Mary have campaigned over many years to obtain a pedestrian crossing for the busy Bournemouth Road. Recent strenuous efforts supported by Mrs Hilary Cox, County Councillor and Paul Lavis Head of St Mary’s Primary School have resulted in grounds for cautious optimism.
A well supported ‘Walk to School’ initiative helped identify sufficient numbers crossing this dangerous road at peak times to qualify for consideration by the relevant Highway and Council authorities.
If a crossing is deemed necessary and sufficient funds can be made available, the facility may be in place in about eighteen months which will mean greater safety for all and much peace of mind to the residents of Blandford St Mary particularly parents with children, the disabled and the elderly.
